Indian Tribe

The Tehuelche had their own language and over the years some of them learnt a little Welsh. There is even record of them competing in the Trelew Eisteddfod.

The Welsh and Tehuelche relationship was unique and special because there had been no serious violence between them. Thanks to the Tehuelche the Welsh were able to survive by combining their way of life with the Tehuelche's. Some of the traditions are still followed by the descendants of the natives today with many more people rediscovering their roots.

Task:

Imagine you are one of the Welsh in Patagonia seeing and meeting the Tehuelche for the first time. Write a diary describing your first impressions of the Tehuelche. What did you learn from them and what did you give back to them? Remember to describe their behaviour, appearance and belongings.
