Did you know…?

The Southern Right Whale is bigger than a bus!

The Southern Right Whale got its strange name because whale hunters many years ago thought that this was the ‘right’ whale to hunt. Other whales sank when they were killed but Southern Right Whale would float on the surface of the water when it was dead and therefore it was easier to lift into the ship.

Scientists believe that seagulls kill the whales by pecking holes in their skin and eating the fat from their backs. This leads to infection and painful sores and the whales, especially the young ones, die.
