Milk Jam - Dulce de Leche

Dulce de leche is a sweet paste that can be added to food. It is sweet, thick and similar to caramel - perfect for puddings. It can be added to cakes, fruits, pancakes or on toast at breakfast time. Some Patagonians call it 'milk jam', because it is made out of milk and sugar.

Empanada

Because the Patagonians eat dinner so late, some people will eat something around 5 – 6 pm in the afternoon. They like to eat an empanada, which is a small pastry filled with different fillings. They consider the empanada as a meal, but some people eat it as a snack. People can add sweet or sour fillings to the empanada and then bake it. Ham and cheese are also very popular.
