Ysgol Gymraeg

In Argentina, the academic year starts at the beginning of March after the summer holidays and ends in the middle of December. There are no half term holidays, but there is a fortnight’s holiday during the winter in July. There are various long weekends throughout the year to celebrate a special festival. For example, Diwrnod y Faner (Banner Day), the town’s birthday and the Easter holidays.

The school day varies from pupil to pupil and is divided in two. The children attend one session, either between 07:40 and 12:40 or between 13:30 and 18:30. On special days, pupils sing the national anthem as the Argentine banner is raised.

After attending school in the morning or afternoon, the children take part in various extra-curricular activities. These include English, French or Welsh classes, swimming, football, dancing, tennis or piano lessons, before going home to bed (a lot later than children in Wales)!
