About eight Eisteddfods are held in the Wladfa every year. The main ones are Eisteddfod y Wladfa in Trelew and Eisteddfod Bro Hydref in Trevelin. The Gorsedd ceremony is held in Gaiman before Eisteddfod y Wladfa. The Eisteddfod is held over two days. Children and young people compete on Friday and adults compete on Saturday.

The Eisteddfod begins and ends with the national anthems – Argentina’s anthem to open the Eisteddfod and the Welsh national anthem to close it. Before the competing begins, a word of welcome and a blessing are given. The weekend comes to a close with a singing assembly in one of the chapels on Sunday morning.

The Eisteddfod is held in Welsh and Spanish. Prizes and certificates are given to those who come first, second and third. Every child who competes gets a handmade bag full of sweets!

The Eisteddfod is usually held in a hall so there is no field with stalls as there is in Wales. There are a few stalls at the back and a kiosco selling drinks and snacks. Many people in the audience can be seen enjoying the competing while drinking mate!
